A couple of weeks ago Jeff was meeting with his HR department at work to inquire about our medical coverage for my surgery and discovered that someone he works with also has a wife who had an acoustic neuroma last year. We were very surprised by this because we've read that these types of tumors are pretty rare.
We have connected with this other couple via e-mail only to find out that she had exactly what I have (her tumor was a little bigger than mine). She had the surgery last January at the U of M with the same surgeons I'm scheduled with and she's doing fine now. Finding them has really been a sign that all is going to work out fine. They also had great things to say about the U and the surgeons so that also confirms that we're in good hands with them.
She did encounter some complications with her recovery, so again, I take this as a sign that my recovery isn't going to be easy, but I can do it and in the end everything will be OK. We haven't actually met this other couple, but we've connected with them via e-mail and they've been very supportive and helpful. I don't think they know how much it means to us for them to share their experiences, knowledge and support. I have to admit that all of this has been a test of my faith at times. I recently told Jeff I wish I could have a crystal ball or some type of "sign" so I'd know that everything was going to work out OK. Well, I got the sign I was looking for.

Thanks for sharing. You know we love you so much and we are here for you, whatever you need.
don't be afraid to ask for help with anything, even if you just need company during the day. It is a blessing that I will still be home from work and available to help out whole heartedly. I love you
